/>

Did you know there is a golfer who thinks he/she is a golf instructor in most every foursome played on courses around the country today? For example, let’s say the group is comprised of a 15 handicap golfer, 18 handicap, 20 handicap and a 24 handicapper. The best player becomes the “tip giver”; in this case it’s the 15 handicapper. He will often give little golf tips to his fellow competitors merely because he is the best player with added experience and that is how he swings.

Here is the problem, 90% of all swing changes are do mainly to errors in the set-up via way of needing to improve Grips, Alignment, Posture and Ball position. Golf swings cannot be changed, in a positive way, without first improving the set-up. The golf swing is taught second. Changing the golf swing first is like a horse pushing the cart rather than pulling the cart. Here are a couple of examples.

How to Grip a Golf Club

Proper Alignment

Golfers that slice normally misalign and have a weak grip (set up problem)

Golfers that tend to pull shots left and are unable to finish in balance have a posture problem (clubs may be too short or too long),another set up problem

Ball flights that go too low could be due to the lack of loft; I see 8 degree lofted drivers in the bag of 20 handicappers driving the ball less than 200 yards, they need a 12 degree and even a 14 degree lofted 1-wood, or ball position is too far back toward the trailing foot causing low ball flights.(another set up challenge)

In each case the cure to the swing fault is the way a golfer gets ready or sets-up properly in the area of grip, alignment, posture, and ball position. Are you pretending to be a golf instructor? Contact me if you want to make a significant swing change based on the basic fundamental principle in the set-up.

Gary Balliet

Quarter Century

PGA Golf Professional

602-931-0653

(40,000+ golf lessons given since 1980)

Indoor Golf Bridges the Gap for Disabled Golfers

<span style="font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; hole, there are a million great places to hang out at The Open.

Thanks to the TPC Scottsdale’s fan-friendly design, fans don’t have to travel very far for a great view of golf action. In fact, many fans prefer the ease and convenience of grabbing a seat on the hillside overlooking the 18th green, located not far from the tournament entrance. Other golf fans enjoy the less-crowded feel of holes 4 through 8 on the front nine and holes 12 through 15 on the back nine.

For golf tournament first-timers, there are basically two ways to watch a golf event. “Parade Style,” where you pick a spot and watch the field pass by or “Cross-Country Style,” where you follow a particular player or group around the course. If you plan on watching the tournament “Parade Style,” you’re encouraged to get to the tournament early to get the best and most popular viewing locations – especially if you’d like to grab a grandstand seat on hole 16.

Thursday through Sunday groups are simultaneously started on the first and 10th tees. Most people like to watch the action on the back nine, which may give you the opportunity to get a better view of the players on the front nine.

If watching golf is not your cup of tea, the Waste Management Phoenix Open offers many great social and networking venues, including the Greenskeeper Tent and the Fairmont Clubhouse patio.

The ever-popular Greenskeeper package has been a big hit with Valley golf fans for many years. Situated in the “heart” of the Open, the main Greenskeeper Tent provides a relaxed atmosphere and an opportunity to discuss business or share a few laughs with clients, business associates or friends. The additional “Greenskeeper II” tent located on the hill overlooking the 18th fairway is a great place to enjoy “The Greatest Show on Grass.”

The Fairmont Clubhouse overlooks one of the most dramatic finishing holes in all of golf; the TPC Scottsdale Clubhouse and adjacent patio afford fans of the Open a glorious setting. Catered buffet luncheons and open bars provided by the Fairmont Scottsdale make this exclusive package one of the most popular.

For those fans who’d like to go anywhere, there’s the Chairman’s Club badge. One ticket, seven venues, good all week long. The Waste Management Phoenix Open’s Chairman’s Club badge is the ultimate way to experience The Greatest Show on Grass. Party in the Greenskeeper Tent, catch some golf action at the Members Club, indulge in the Clubhouse, seal a deal in Corporate Village, cheer your #$%* off in a Skybox and get your groove on at the Birds Nest. Short of wearing a blue velvet tunic (as the tournament host Thunderbirds do), there’s simply no better way to enjoy the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Regardless of your golf knowledge or age, there’s a great spot for you to catch the action at this year’s Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open is the best-attended golf tournament in the world and has raised more than $65.9 million for charities, with more than $37.9 million generated in just the last six years alone. Chiropractors, along with a good golf instructor, can help you evaluate, treat, condition and train golfers. As a Chiropractor, I look at the body in balance from head to toe, which is the essence of the golf swing. Anything interfering with the stance or the grip restrictions in the swing will have a profound affect on your golf swing. There are three fundamental causes of golf injuries that I deal with almost on a daily basis: Poor posture, lack of flexibility and lack of balanced functioning muscles. Poor swing mechanics is the fourth area (but I leave that to your golf instructor).

Let's look at the body for a minute. The body is supposed to have natural curves called the cervical lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis. Many golfers have lost those natural curves, and the spine has to function differently than it was designed to do. That leads to uneven wear and tear in our joints causing painful misalignments of our spine and early degenerative changes, which then leads to arthritis of the spine-the dreaded Degenerative Joint disease. I will tell you that over 50 percent of all golfers will experience some sort of pain due to poor posture and the problems that arise from loss of proper curves in the spine.
Points to consider:

Are your feet balanced and comfortable at address?

Do your feet have to flare out in order to turn on the backswing?

Do you find yourself walking slightly crooked the day after a round of golf? Maybe you couldn't even get out of bed for a few days.

You may have a disc issue which needs to be addressed.
How do you know if your posture is out of balance and you are susceptible to wear and tear of the spine? Try these at home to see if your posture and alignment is hindering your game.

Look at yourself in a mirror. Stand nice and tall with your hands to your side. Is one shoulder higher than the other? Now place you hands on your hips. Is one hip higher than the other? You'll need a partner for this one. Lay across a bed face down with your arms to your side and your feet hanging off the bed. Have your partner stand at the end where your feet are hanging. Your partner should look down at the length of your legs and determine if one leg is longer than the other. If your answer is yes to any of these questions you might want to contact my office. If you’re serious about golf you should really be serious about your body. Most golfers will take good care of their golf equipment and spend little time with their most valuable equipment-themselves. Take a few minutes every day to stretch before playing as it will make a tremendous difference.

Contact Farhi Family Chiropractic
to make an appointment
(480) 948-2898

Fixing Your Golf Slice

<div class="MsoNormal" style="color: black; display: inline ! The less extreme version of a slice is called a "fade".

What Causes a Golf Slice?

The only factor that will determine if a golf ball will slice, is the alignment of the clubface at impact. In the case of a slice the clubface at impact is “open”(looking off to the right). Imagine that the ball is on a peg, and that all it can do is spin one way or another. To spin the ball clockwise, the club has to swing more to the left with the clubface looking slightly to the right. In a golf shot, this is exactly what happens to make the ball slice. This can often be confirmed by looking at the divot. The divot produced by a slice swing is often pointing well left with the ball ending up well right of the divot's direction.

How to fix a Golf Slice.

The Grip

As I just mentioned that the clubface looking to the right at impact is what causes a slice, now let’s talk about the number one factor that determines where the clubface is looking at impact, and that is your grip. Grips can be very individualized. A grip that produces a perfectly straight shot for one player can cause a huge hook or a slice for another. That being said, you can make certain generalizations about the grip regarding slicing. If your hands are turned too far to the left on the club, it's much more likely to return with the face looking to the right at impact.

Here's the guideline: In your stance, with the clubface square to the target, you should be able to look down and see at least two knuckles on your left hand. If you see three or even four, that's fine. Your grip is not contributing to your slice. Another guideline is to look at the "V’s" formed between the thumb and the base of the hand. These should point up to somewhere near your right shoulder.

The Stance

It seems logical that if a golfer is missing to the right, then before too long he or she would aim more to the left to compensate. With slicers this is, in fact, the case. But aiming to the left will cause the swing's circle to be too far to the left, exacerbating the slicing motion.

Double check that your aim is not too far to the left, especially with your shoulders. You can lay a club on the ground, parallel to your target line, to check your aim. Or you can have a friend check your alignment. Just make sure that your feet, knees, hips and shoulders are parallel to that club on the ground and to your target line.

Checking your stance and grip can often eradicate any slice without changing the hitting motion at all. Let the ball's flight be your guide. If it's curving less to the right, then you're on the right track. If it's flying straight or curving left, then your slice is cured.

The Backswing

If your backswing is too much up and not enough around, then the club is going to approach the ball on an angle that is too steep. In other words, too sharply toward the ground. A steep downswing tends to have an opening effect on your arms. Whereas, a flatter swing will have a rolling effect on your arms.

To fix this issue, take a look at your backswing at the top. Make sure the shaft is over your shoulder at the top, not over your head. To achieve this position, you may have to feel your left arm cross your chest just a bit, creating a flatter or more rounded backswing. You may feel a bigger turn this way too.

The next important element of the backswing will be the clubface position. One of the biggest mistakes slicers make is to turn the club clockwise to begin the backswing (i.e., immediately opening the clubface on the takeaway). This movement feels like the club is going around properly, creating a good turn. Unfortunately, this opening of the club simply creates an open face at impact. True, the clubface should "open" on the backswing, relative to the target line. However, this natural opening is done with the turning of the shoulders and torso, not because of a twist in the hands.

When you are making your backswing, just hold onto the club. No effort to twist or hinge the wrists should be made. When you get to the top, you can check for the proper position by looking at your left wrist. You should be able to lay a ruler underneath the face of your wristwatch and have it touch both your arm and the back of your hand. In other words, the back of your left wrist should be flat.

The Downswing

With a good grip and stance as well as a good backswing position, I'd be surprised if your slice is still here. If these first few areas check out, you're 90% of the way to eliminating the slice.

To begin the downswing, you want to feel the arms drop in a relaxed fashion. The club is going to feel as though it is swinging on an inside-out track. In other words, if we think of it in baseball terms, and you were the batter, you would want to swing out to right field.

If the ball still has a tail to the right, you can add this sensation: Try to get the feeling that the club is closing a bit too soon. Feel as though the clubface is closed by the time it gets to your right leg. This should be done through softness in the wrists, with a feeling of letting the club swing. It should not be done by forcing the club to turn over with your hands. Some practice swing should give you the feeling. Keep in mind, it is a golf “swing” and not a golf “hit”.

Final Thoughts

Make sure to be patient as you are making any changes. It will not become a new habit overnight. Also, use the golf ball as feedback. The ball will never lie. If it is still curving to the right you will know the clubface is still open at impact. You'll want to remember that you are improving if your 30-yard slice is now a 15-yard slice. No matter how strange a new move feels, always listen to what the ball tells you. You may be sure that the clubhead is turning over soon enough, but if the ball is still tailing to the right, then you'll have to feel the club close sooner still. Not until you curve the ball to the left, have you closed the clubface too soon! The feel can trick you, but the ball won't.

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Bhwy0HYQ9CE/TKv8fFAm_oI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/UTnv3e-oMzk/s1600/northcourse2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; The FedEx Cup, the so called PGA Tour Playoffs now in its fourth season concluded last weekend. Congratulations to Jim Furyk for his win! The Ryder Cup, its 38th match in 83 years between Europe and USA got underway in Wales this last week and so far is living up to its expectations.

The last six weeks it has been somewhat embarrassing to watch the PGA Tour struggle to make the FedEx Cup relevant, so much so there is a 10 million dollar check awarded to the champion. On the other hand The Ryder Cup progresses along business as usual; the winning team receives a cup……that must be one nice cup.

The PGA Tour tries to create a playoff system that rewards a season champion. The Ryder Cup continues its traditional process, displays little flash and continues to receive the attention it so richly deserves. The PGA Tour has created clever commercials selling golfers on its playoff system but one could argue it is more about giving FedEx the exposure they deserve for their sponsorship. It appears all too contrived for the viewers as they try to figure out the complicated point system. It may take seed in a few years but it has many challenges ahead. Let’s hope they don’t lose their sponsor along the way. I’m not sure if “The Home Depot Cup” will have much zing.

In contrast, The Ryder Cup is all drama, it is not about a paycheck, it is about playing for your eleven teammates and coach. It is about representing your countryman and trying to bring home a cup that represents a part of golf history. It is intense pressure that some players have described as nothing like they have ever experienced on the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour in the fall has historically been a time of rabbits, struggling golfers trying to hit the big time, seeking a check, chasing the last bit of money left on tour in hopes of earning a spot on the sacred 125 money list. The Ryder Cup is a biannual event that has been played for 83 years. Recently added to the fall schedule is the Presidents Cup. In the off year it pits the USA Team against the International Team. These cups have provided the drama for golfers in the slow fall golf season.

The Ryder Cup is not seeking ratings, it is not seeking made up drama it is concerned about providing a challenging venue for golf. The play is not a long drawn out process that drags on like American Idol. The Ryder Cup is three days packed full of golf, a total of 90-holes played in a team format match play style. The courses they play are difficult and challenging but the true challenge is the match play and the pressure they feel as representatives of their country.

Maybe I have had my fill of Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller. When the announcer tells me that one putt will jump a player from 35th to 21st in the points I sense they are overdramatizing golf for the ratings.

The PGA Tour can have its playoffs but they need to get their act together and knock off the American Idol false drama. The real drama on the PGA Tour in the fall is when golfers are playing for their livelihood. A player adding a $225,000 check to his $5,000,000 career earnings is not high drama. A player seeking a check of any size while his wife sits home barefoot and pregnant; that is drama. That is the best high drama “Reality TV” available to the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour now has time to evaluate how to make the script better for next year. They should a more clever media package, more money, or a more complicated point system. The Ryder Cup will concentrate on qualifying its 12 players for another cup in 2012 with or without the cameras.
At this point of the 2010 Ryder Cup entering the final day of single matches the USA Team trails the European Team by 3 points and needs to mount a charge to retain the cup. It may be too much to overcome. It appears the USA players may have been on the “PGA Tour TV Set” too long. I guess the odds makers forgot to calculate how exhausting it can be to shoot a PGA Tour Playoff TV show.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; The concept behind this technology is that web users who visit your site can subscribe to your RSS feed, by clicking on the RSS button, to receive notifications when new content is added to your web page.

How am I notified when new information is added?
(I don’t need any more email solicitations…please!!!)

1.) When you subscribe to a feed, your browser bookmarks the RSS feed and you have the option to view the notifications at your leisure. Once you subscribe all you have to do is click on the feed link, which is displayed on your browser in either your “favorites” or on the browser tool bar (varies with each browser). The title of the RSS feed is displayed so, in case you subscribe to multiple feeds you know which one to click.

Who uses this and what are the advantages?

From major corporations to the small, individual blog publisher who posts articles, pictures, videos, stories, promotions, newsletters… you name it. Anyone who publishes content on the web needs to be using RSS. RSS subscriptions grow exponentially every day. More and more web users are getting familiar with technology and appreciate having information readily available without having to visit multiple sites to check for new content. Now they check their RSS feeds to see what new information has been added to their web sites of interest.

OK, I think I get it, but give me some examples.
Here are two examples related to the sports industry:

1) Jeff the ASU Football fan,

2) Joe, a typical Arizona golfer with a 15 handicap

1.) The Browser shows that RSS feeds are available.
2.) ASU Sports is one of RSS feeds available for subscription

Jeff is a big fan of ASU Sports and likes to catch up on the sports headlines every week. He subscribes to an RSS feed from the Arizona Republic specifically for ASU Sports articles. When Jeff launches his web browser everyday he checks to see what new articles have been posted about ASU Sports in his RSS bookmark. He clicks on whatever article grabs his attention. This makes Jeff happy because he doesn’t waste time searching the web for ASU Sports articles. The articles are immediately available for him to view whenever he wants to. Jeff can group multiple ASU Football RSS feeds from different sources and store them in a folder, but he genuinely like the AZ Rep articles and feels he doesn’t need to go overboard with too many subscriptions. Feed page for ASU Sports.

Once you subcribe to a feed, updates are added
automatically. You can even set your browser to
notify you when new updates are posted or just check
for updates on your own.

Joe fell in love when he played golf at Los Lobos Country Club for the first time. He loved the course, the beach, the resort, and the fact that his family kept entertained while he was out golfing. Now he’s looking for any excuse to go back, so he subscribed to the Los Lobos RSS feed and checks it at the beginning and end of the week to see what incentives will lure him back. He likes RSS because he doesn’t like signing up for email notices. He checks for new promotions through his RSS feeds located at Loco4Golf. Joe has several RSS subscriptions to his favorite courses. In a way he’s not your average Joe web surfer. Feed page for Los Lobos Country Club

I get it now, but how do I do this for myself?
I can barley check my emails!!!

The good news is that you don’t need to be a rocket scientist. There is some simple code needed to plug into your web site. But you do need to be proactive with adding content. Imagine if every time you turned on the TV the same show was playing over and over again. Boring! You’d never use it. Don’t fall into the same trap with your web site. Keep content fresh and interesting and make it easy for people to have access to your info.

If you are a golf course looking to use this feature, Loco4Golf can set this up for you on our web site or your personal golf course page. We won’t charge you to do this, but we need some fresh content to link it to. Some good ideas: Golf Promos, Event Info, Newsletter, Food & Beverage, Hotel Packages, Golf Instruction, etc. We’ll set up the campaigns and run them on our site and your site. Maximize your exposure.

For other industry related professionals interested in RSS or other promotional avenues, contact us and let’s talk shop about what you need. There’s a good chance we can get you up and running with little or no investment. We might be able to point you in the right direction with a quick 5 minute phone call and we’re happy to do so. Don’t be intimidated by technology. We’ll help you break it down and help you conquer it.

For more info visit:

Hello Golfers,
Have you felt like you are swaying too much in your swing? Do you feel like you are ever “tensing” or “muscle-ing up” during your swing to generate more club head speed? So much of an effective and powerful swing originates from the golfer’s hips and core. In this aritcle, I want to show you two exercises that focus on the stability and strength of the hip and core. The “Step Down” and “Windmill” exercises relate specifically to your ability to maintain a stable hip postion throughout the swing and to increase club head speed using your core musculature. One of my golf fitness clients, Brad, is pictured in the examples of each exercise.

The Step Down is a body weight exercise isolating only hip at a time. You will need a step or box 6 to 20 inches tall. Start with only one foot on the step and find a balanced position. Slowly lower your body weight, sitting your hips back, and attempt to touch the floor with only your heel of the non-standing leg. Once you reach the floor with your heel or the lowest point possible, squeeze your Gluteal (Butt) muscles on both hips and rise up.

In Figure 1, Brad is demonstrating BAD form by allowing his standing leg and knee to come too far forward. There is too much pressure on the knee and thigh muscles.

The correct position with GOOD form is pictured in Figure 2. The standing leg has the knee directly over the toes. The hips are sitting back, which isolates the hip and gluteals correctly. Do 2 sets of 10-15 repetitions on each side.
The Windmill is focusing on the hips and core muscles moving and stabilizing a motion similar to the golf swing.

Begin the motion as depcited in Figure 3, in an athletic position have feet shouler width apart pointing forward, with a pole, club, or broomstick in hands. The stick should be parallel to the ground and the shoulders. Slowly reach and rotate to the right (or left) keeping the shoulders relaxed and the stick parallel to the floor.

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Bhwy0HYQ9CE/TKplRlg2iCI/AAAAAAAAAGc/5jidShCFLXI/s1600/fig4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; Then rotate your body back to the center and reach upward, keeping stick and shoulders parallel, as in Figure 5.

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Bhwy0HYQ9CE/TKplYbNzMQI/AAAAAAAAAGg/7coIIhQCHkw/s1600/fig5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; Of course this isn’t a medical condition, but it is a condition that serious limits the abilities of most golfers attempting to add yardage to their swing. “Mirror Muscle Syndrome” of golfers to focus on the easy muscles to lift with, specifically the chest, biceps, and possibly the quadriceps (front of the thigh). Typically, men will gravitate towards exercises that work only these muscles as they are “easy” to see and feel the effect, like in the mirror. The quadriceps are also “easy” to see and feel the burn, without much effort. However, it is that overemphasis of these muscles, that can truly limit the golfer’s ability to reach through a full range of motion.

In this article, I wish to focus on two exercises with the goal of improving the strength and posture of a golfer. These exercises, one for the upper body and one for the lower body, will allow the golfer to have a better starting position and body control during the movement of their golf swing.

Starting with one of the most essential upper body exercises a golfer can do , the Lat Pulldown. We are about stress most of the muscles of the Back, as well as stabilizing the spine. In Figure 1, you can see the correct starting position of the exercise. Start with hands about shoulder width apart, then begin to pulldown towards your sternum about two inches below your collarbone. Figure 2, pictures the correct posture at the end of the Lat Pulldown, with the chest extended towards the bar. Commonly, most exercisers lose technique as well as posture when performing this exercise and begin to engage muscles in the chest, Figure 3. If your body begins to compensate with the muscles in the chest for a movement, like the Lat Pulldown, we can assume that you are most likely allowing your chest to tighten up or excessively engage in your golf swing. This could mean limited range of motion in both your backswing and follow-through.

The second exercise for the lower body, the dumbbell deadlift, targets the hamstrings and lower back with stabilizing a proper posture. The exercise begins in a standing position with arms and dumbbells resting at the sides of the body, Figure 4. Keeping the abdomen tight and shoulders slightly pulled back, hinge at the hips, allowing the torso to come towards the floor, Figure 5. In Figure 5, you can see that the knees are slightly bent. The eyes are looking downward, so as to not extend or arch the neck, you can see that spine straight and not arched or rounded. A stretch can be felt in the hamstrings (back of the thigh) while doing this exercise. Figure 6, shows the most common mistake while attempting this exercise. The incorrect posture puts all of the stress dangerously on the spine, avoiding any action by the hamstring muscles.

I would suggest adding these two exercises, into your routine at 2-3 sets of 15-20 repetitions. Though these exercises do not stress rotation of the body, which is required in a golf swing, they will give your body a better foundation of strength and posture to make your swing more effective.

If you need help with assessing your strength, flexibility, and power of your current fitness level and how to apply it to your golf game, please feel free to contact me at Andrew@fitnessbyandrew.com.

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri; four events in all, The Barclays, Deutsche Bank Championship, BMW Championship and the Tour Championship ending in Atlanta the last week in September. After a five week stretch golfers will know who is the best golfer for 2010, right? The other events: The “Four” Majors, The “The Players “the so called fifth major, The President’s Cup held during the off year of the Ryder Cup, The four World Championship Events one of which was played the week prior the PGA Championship, I guess those are the semi finals. With such an impressive schedule of events throughout the year who has time for a regular tour event?

Just in case you didn’t get a chance to see any of these big events, the Champions Tour has their version, heck they have five majors along with their Charles Schwab Cup too. What is that all about?

The reality there are so many great players that play incredible golf winning events all over the world each week, so truly what does the Fed Ex Cup mean to golf fans? As we prepare for a barrage of events coming our way, the Tennis US Open, opening season for the NFL, Major League Baseball fall drama, Nascar’s The Race for the Chase, Oh don’t forget The PGA Fall Series that will continue the week after the playoffs, and last but not least the Nationwide Tour will conduct their Tour Championship as well, what is a fan to do?

The Playoffs was introduced in 2007 and as we all prepare for the fourth season of PGA Tour Playoffs how many of you are on your seat?

Consider myself, a professional for 24 years, my son plays competitively and we both love the game, honestly I’m not sure how much golf I’m going to watch this playoff season, I might find myself more interested in Frank’s picks and how he fares against the gang on Fox NFL Sunday.

I guess what comes to my mind this time of year when I review the PGA Tour Playoff schedule I’m reminded of Jim Mora’s infamous press conference comments; “Playoffs? Don’t talk about.… playoffs? You kidding me? ….. Playoffs?”

As golfers we love the game and all the shots good or bad shots that go with it but when the PGA Tour Playoffs roll around this time of year I think we all might find ourselves tailgating for the gridiron rather than the tee box.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana; Saying that Crosswoods’ golf simulators is like Nintendo Wii Golf on steroids is gross understatement. Here your experience is derived from a combination of physical skill, golf ball tracking software, and 3D graphics that can transport you to forty world-renowned golf courses or if you want to take a trip to a surreal golf world, "Infamous 18" where you can tee off from a 50-story building in New York or take your best shot at par 3 surrounded by cascading waterfalls 200 ft hight in the Amazon Jungle.

When you first walk into Crosswoods you feel an atmosphere that is fun and vibrant with music playing, the crashing sounds of tee-shots, and laughter between friends and family. There is a beer and wine bar, tables for food service and flat screen televisions that provide an ambiance more reflective of a bowling alley. Don’t expect the usual quiet hush-hush of the country club. The ambient surrounding sounds are easy enough to drown out with a steady focus when you are playing. The atmosphere is a welcome relief from the intimidation than can be associated with the game.

Crosswoods is a great place for families, friends, corporate groups and networking events. The indoor golf center can accommodate small groups to parties of 150 people. There are 8 simulators in the main room and 2 simulators in the private salon which is available for private parties and business events of all types.

If you are looking to play a round you can choose from 9 or 18 holes as a single player or up to as many as six players per simulator. The facility is run just like a regular golf course. You need to reserve a tee-time for your group in advance or take a chance as a walk-in if a simulator is available. Bring your clubs, glove, shoes, etc., everything you would normally play with except you can leave your umbrella behind. Normal play on takes about 1 hour per person. So if you have a foursome, plan on at least 4 hours for a full round of 18 holes.

Each golf simulator has a table for food service and drinks. It’s common to see non-golfers hanging around enjoying a bite or a drink while their hubbies play. A flat screen television is standard at every “sim” station where satellite tv, dvd and laptops can be connected to entertain the non-golfers. Want to jam out to your favorite tunes while playing? Bring your ipod and connect to your personal audio system. Your sim station is your group’s entertainment center with the intention of maximum enjoyment and comfort.

Golfers of all levels will appreciate the Driving Range module. Designed with practice and swing analysis software that compiles real-time data from three cameras which triangulate and photograph the ball flight at 150 frames per second. The simulator software analyzes your stroke providing you with a comprehensive report to help improve accuracy, distance, ball spin and overall control the clubs in your bag. The data collected from your swing analysis can be recorded for study and comparison for future game improvement.

Owners Bev and Brad Lefebvre run the business with a hands-on personal approach. They are both on-site at one of their two locations in Chandler and Gilbert and are very active in promoting Crosswoods for business, social events, golf instruction and leagues. Currently they are running a summer couples league, kids camp, long-drive qualifiers, skins leagues and other social activities during televised PGA, NBA, MLD and other sports events such as the US Open, Super Bowl and World Series. Bev and Brad welcome whatever theme party, bachelor or birthday party ideas you have. They have an open door and an open-minded policy to help create and make your event a success.

My only complaint about Crosswoods Indoor Golf Center is that their only two locations are not close enough to my home but I’ve often said I don’t mind traveling for golf. Opportunities are available for franchise ownership or for personal use ownership. Brad has installed golf simulators in personal residences for their own private use. So if you are thinking about upgrading your man cave with a golf simulator, be sure to contact Brad Lefebvre at Crosswoods (480) 961-GOLF.

I am looking forward to seeing more Crosswoods Indoor Golf centers especially as the heat continues to rise and when the sun starts to set early. Now we have an opportunity to play year round, night and day, rain, sleet or snow. I want to personally thank Bev and Brad for introducing me to Crosswoods and allowing us to tour their facilities. You can find discounted tee times for both of Crosswood’s Chandler and Gilbert locations at Loco4golf.com inside our golf directory.

CrossWoods Indoor Golf
480-961-GOLF (4653) Chandler
480-654-GOLF (4653) Gilbert
480-325-4899 Fax
www.crosswoodsgolf.com

World's Highest Par 3, a 1,411 ft. drop

Extreme Golf:
Million $ Par 3 (1,411 ft. drop)
The Extreme 19th hole on Hanglip Mountain at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort in South Africa.
Insets: leading golfers Sergio Garcia, in the red shirt, on the tee and below, Retief Goosen lines up his shot.

Forget pitch and putt - this tee-off point on top of a 1,411 foot mountain in South Africa is the hardest golf shot in the world, and more than $1 million awaits the player who can score a hole in one.

Players must take a helicopter to the top to play the longest and highest par three on the planet. Taking the shot also requires courage a player needs to teeter terrifyingly close to the edge of the mammoth hillside. Indeed, the Extreme 19th Hole is so high the ball takes almost 30 seconds to reach the ground.

Channel Nine cricket commentator Mark Nicholas recently joined an elite list to have the shot in just three swings. "It was awesome, riveting and phenomenal," he said. "It's like the end of the world when you get up there and it's an awful lot of fun. "It's such an adrenalin rush taking the helicopter up and then rushing back down."
The hole is based at the Legends Golf and Safari Resort, within the Entabeni Safari Conservancy in South Africa 'S north-eastern Limpopo Province. The other 18 holes were designed by world golfing legends including Trevor Immelman, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington and Australia's Robert Allenby.

A round of golf - including a buggy and lunch will set you back ($US 57). The Extreme 19th costs is ($US 840) per four balls, that includes helicopter ride, souvenir cap and glove and a DVD of you playing the hole. So far, no one has even come close to pocketing the million-dollar prize, but Harrington became the first golfer to conquer the hole within par.

Harrington said: "This is the type of innovation and excitement we need to get more people playing golf. "There aren't many new innovative ways to play the game but this is certainly one of the best. "I think this hole is awesome. I love the whole experience, the helicopter, the views, the drama and having the green the shape of Africa. Along with the good weather comes one of the best PGA events on the Tour: The Phoenix Open, now known as....

The Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Don't laugh at the new name. As a matter of fact I like it for many reasons. For one, it's time to start thinking green, raise awareness and be proactive. The words "Waste Management" don't leave you guessing about what the company does. They could have chosen a more artistic name to cover the grit and grime associated with handling garbage. Growing up, I remember the words "sanitation engineer" used to refer to garbage men. Who's fooling who? Waste Management means managing waste and sponsoring a golf tournament is a great way to bring awareness to an industry that touches millions.

To help do our part and promote green golf awareness we would like to Introduce...

Dixon Golf
Dixon Golf's Earth golf ball, the world's first eco-friendly golf ball. Not sure but sounds like could be the true story....

For all of you that really want to know what happened with Tiger, read the attached. This information comes from friends who know the agent that shares offices with Mark Steinberg, Tiger's agent.

I have a Member who lives 10 houses down from Tiger in Isleworth. As we know Tiger's agent is Mark Steinberg. My member plays golf and is real good friends with another IMG Agent; who is very good friends with Steinberg and they share the same office. This information came from the other IMG Agent to my Member, and then to me today, and according to them is up to date as yesterday when my Member left Orlando.

On Thanksgiving Day, after he and Elin and the family had Turkey Dinner, he spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch watching football and texting Rachel. After each received and sent text message he would clear his message box to rid himself of the evidence. Sometime in between there, one of his Orlando buds called him to see if he wanted to get together at the Clubhouse to play poker with the guys, to which Tiger said yes. Tiger left the house around 7:30 to go play poker, and left behind his cell phone....and one message he had forgot to delete from Rachel.

When Tiger returned home around 11:30-12 that night, Elin confronted him about the text message in the phone, and the started a heated discussion to its regards. According to what I was told, there was more "incriminating evidence" than just the text message (i.e., photos). Tiger tried to play it off to Elin by telling her she was reading too much in to it, and did not know the story, etc. Tiger went upstairs to chance into his gym shorts and t - shirt, came back down, and Elin confronted him again; to which Tiger gave the same story. Tiger sat down in a chair in the living room, and Elin sat across from him urging Tiger to just come clean. Tiger stayed to his guns and denied everything. At one point Tiger turned away to look at the TV, and as he turned back, Elin hit him on the right side of the face with the head of a 9 - iron. then she struck Tiger, she put a huge gash in the right side of his face next to his nose (causing his nose to bruise some), and virtually knocking two of his upper teeth out, and breaking the bone on the upper right side. Tiger ran scared as hell out of the house (which is why he had on no shoes) with Elin swinging the golf club through out the hallway to the garage (i.e., causing the severe damage which has been reported). Tiger hoped in the Escalate and tried to leave; and as we know Eli knocked out the windows in the Escalate. When Tiger crashed, Eli panicked and was not sure what to tell the police (which is why there are two conflicting stories from her). When this happened, Elin immediately called Mark Steinberg to tell him what happened, and Mark told Elin to tell him what hospital they were going to, and he would meet them there.

Tiger is transported to the hospital with Elin in the ambulance, and as they arrive Mark is there waiting for them.

The people from the hospital and the doctors take Tiger in for X-rays, etc., to check out the damage caused. The doctors tell Mark there is not much they can do to repair the teeth and the gash, but the doctor knows a cosmetic dentist and plastic surgeon in Phoenix who will make Tiger look as if nothing happened. Tiger tells Mark to get the jet ready and lets head to Phoenix to get this done. Friday after Tiger is released from the hospital, he does not return home, he and Mark board the plane for Phoenix. If you remember FHP kept showing up at Isleworth to talk to Tiger, and was told by another FL attorney (who Tiger hired for PR reasons) Tiger was not ready to talk.

Well, now we know why, he was in Phoenix, and did not arrive back in Orlando until either late last Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The surgeries were more intense than what they had originally planned, which meant Tiger was in PHX longer than he should have been. Upon arriving back in Orlando, Tiger and Elin have been in intense marriage counseling sessions (up to 6 to 7 hours a day) every day! Both Tiger and Elin have told the counselors they love each other, and want to make the marriage work. The reports you are reading on TMZ and RadarOnline are about 30% accurate at best according to Mark.

In regard to Tiger's boat being in Palm Beach this week, along with Rachel; that part is true. However, Tiger is not on the boat, and is not in Palm Beach; and Rachel is not on the boat.

Her parents live 6 blocks from where the boat is, but that is it. Tiger has not returned to his house at Isleworth since the day of the accident except for the therapy sessions. IMG has enlisted the assistance of one of its most recognized sports figures, and Tiger has taken up residence in his neighborhood; Bay Hill. IMG contacted Arnold Palmer because of the high regard in which Tiger holds Arnold. Arnold has agreed, and IMG has said if anyone can get through to Tiger, Arnold may be the only person who can based on his public persona when he was at the height of his game as well. The moving trucks being shown on TMZ and RadarOnline are moving out pictures and furniture which was damaged during their Thanksgiving day argument; not of her moving out. Yes, Elin has retained a divorce attorney, but has not filed any papers, and as of yesterday had no intention on doing so. Tiger has not made any public appearances or statements due to the surgery and plastic surgery he had in PHX. It will be about another month if not more before he gets in front of a camera. Yes, Tiger is hitting golf balls late at night at Bay Hill out of their teaching center (which is equipped with lights).
